Do You Have Enough Car Insurance Coverage?

HighwayAtNight

Protect your family.  Do you have enough insurance coverage to protect your family in the event of a serious accident?  There are two major ways an accident can affect you and your family.

First, you are involved in a car accident.  You are seriously injured.  The accident is caused by another person.  Unfortunately, we routinely see folks who have their lives completely turned upside down because they were involved in an accident and suffer serious injuries.

Serious injuries prevent you from working, take away your career, which then affects your ability to pay your mortgage or rent, pay your utilities, or buy food for your family.  Soon you are applying for Welfare or taking loans from family members just to make ends meet.

In the long term, you need to figure out how to retrain yourself so you can start a new career.

This is why you carry uninsured and underinsured (UM/UIM) coverage.  This type of insurance coverage protects you personally in the event you are injured by another person.

Your insurance coverage should be designed to cover you in the event of serious injuries.  We recommend you talk with an insurance professional as to actual amount of insurance coverage you should have.  But, at the very least, you should try to cover yourself with at least $250,000.00 or more of UM/UIM coverage.

The second major way in which an accident can disrupt your family is when you cause an accident resulting in serious injuries to another person.  If this person loses their career, suffers serious catastrophic injuries, requires surgery, then they will be looking to you, if you caused the accident, to pay for all their losses.

CAUTION:  If you do not have enough insurance coverage—called liability insurance—you may personally be liable for the injured person’s losses.

What does this mean?  It means you may lose your savings account, your home, or up to 25% of your paycheck each payday to help cover the damages of the person you hit.

Liability insurance—protects you when you may, unfortunately, have caused an accident with serious injuries.  It protects your financial assets.  Again, we recommend you see a professional insurance agent for the amount of coverage you need.

Protect yourself, protect your family.  Be proactive.
